Frequently Asked Question

The line numbers are sometimes every line and sometimes not. Why is this?
Last Updated 6 years ago

Line numbers are based on the line breaks. Verse lines contain consistent breaks roughly every 10 syllables. Prose lines have almost no line breaks and therefore the line numbers are less frequent (sometimes only one line number for a long prose speech). As digital texts become more widespread, device screen sizes is a common issue when having consistent line numbering between devices. A tablet reading prose line 5 would likely be a phone reading line 10. All the line numbers would vary widely from reader to reader and cause confusion. The system we've used makes things universal, consistent and easy to understand when referencing parts of the text on any device.
